Module 2: The Salesian Educational Approach: values and themes
Building on the foundations of the previous module, this module provides an in-depth exploration of the Salesian educational approach, its values, and themes. Learners will engage with the educational and pastoral charism developed by St. John Bosco, including its core values of loving-kindness, reason, and spirituality, as well as additional themes such as inclusivity, happiness, and presence.
The module highlights the relevance and impact of this non-formal educational approach and illustrates its practical application through real-life examples.

Competencies
At the end of the module/unit the learners will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

– Ensure that values and themes of the Salesian educational approach are translated into applied skills within their professional areas.
– Apply values and themes of the Salesian educational approach in practice.
– Collaborate with other professionals to create, plan, and conduct tasks in line with the values and themes of the Salesian educational approach.

At the end of the module/unit the learners will have been exposed to the following:
– Describe general principles, values, and themes of the Salesian educational approach.
– Understand the impact of the values of the Salesian educational approach and how the professional can recognize their benefits and challenges.
– Identify ways of implementing loving-kindness, reason, and spiritual values.
– Identify ways of implementing other values, including but not limited to, inclusivity, happiness, and presence.
Mode of Delivery
This module utilizes a blended learning approach, by combining theoretical concepts with practical applications. The sessions within this module will consist of presentations, discussions, hands-on practice, and interactive activities. Learners will have the opportunity to explore different values and themes of the Salesian educational approach and how they can be implemented in practical situations. Learners will be engaged in group work and discussions to exchange ideas and experiences.
Throughout the course, participants will actively apply the concepts learned into their specific areas and will receive feedback and guidance from instructors and peers to enhance their understanding.
Assessment
Attendance is compulsory since this module requires the active participation of the learners (10% of the overall mark). The participants’ learning progress will be assessed through their active participation in discussions, group activities, and assignments. Oral feedback and support will be provided throughout the teaching and learning process.
Each learner will keep a reflection journal of the sessions being delivered during this module. The purpose of this journal is to reflect on their reactions, insights, and critical analyses. Participants will be requested to share in a group what they have attained during the sessions of this module. For this module, the learner is expected to present an in-depth reflection on the values and themes of the Salesian educational approach, and the knowledge and skills gained for their implementation to practice.
At the end of the module the participants are given an evaluation sheet to help them reflect on whether the learning outcomes have been achieved.
